Brent Hunsinger headed south after graduating from JSC in 2006 with a degree Outdoor Education, teaching Chesapeake Bay ecology at Echo Hill Outdoor School on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. A few years later, in 2008, he put the wilderness skills he gained while studying at JSC to work during an Appalachian Trail thru-hike.
After obtaining a graduate education in Resource Management and Conservation at Antioch University New England, he and his family moved to Fredericksburg, VA where he owns and runs Brent’s Native Plantings, a native plant landscaping business. Brent credits his JSC education with his interest and advocacy for native plants, seeing them as essential components to ensuring local water quality and a thriving wildlife habitat. “My education in Outdoor Education at Johnson State was invaluable in helping me to communicate the need for restoration of native plant ecosystem.”
