Discovery. Collaboration. Challenge. Location.
Expert faculty and a rigorous, hands-on education that makes your degree work for you
Welcome to Northern Vermont University.
On July 1, 2018 Johnson State College and Lyndon State College will become Northern Vermont University, a two-campus institution of higher education that combines the best of our nationally recognized liberal arts and professional programs. At Northern Vermont University, our goal is to guide curious, motivated, engaged students on their path to success and their place in the world.
About Northern Vermont University
One University, Two Unique, Vibrant Campuses
As an NVU student, you’ll enroll at either our Lyndon or Johnson campus, and you’ll be able to take classes at both, on campus and virtually through our online and telepresence classrooms.
By combining more than 200 years of history in liberal arts and professional learning, NVU offers expanded access to a faculty with a broader and deeper depth of expertise and experience. You’ll collaborate with and learn from peers and staff on both campuses. And your alumni network will include Lyndon and Johnson graduates all over the world who will help you get your foot in the door to put your degree immediately to work in your profession.
Our campuses both offer in-demand degrees in business, criminal justice, education, psychology and human services, and so much more. We also have programs and disciplines unique to each campus.
Our Johnson campus, designated by COPLAC as Vermont’s premier public liberal arts institution, offers an immersive, high-impact, liberal arts experience that prepares you to thrive in an ever-changing world. Opportunities for hands-on research working side-by-side with your professors, domestic and international student exchanges, and internships ground your education in real-world experience that will make you stand out in the job market after graduation.
Our Lyndon campus, located in Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom, offers distinct professional programs based in a liberal arts core, programs such as Mountain Recreation Management, Atmospheric Sciences, Electronic Journalism Arts, and Exercise Science to prepare you for success.
Earn Your Degree in a Beautiful Location with Year-Round Outdoor and Cultural Opportunities
With breathtaking hilltop campuses, Northern Vermont University gives you access to premier skiing, mountain biking, hiking, cycling, and snowmobiling. If a walk through the woods is more your speed, dirt roads and a network of trails are out your door. You’ll be inspired just walking across campus!
You’ll also enrich your student life experience with programs and events on both campuses. Want to attend a faculty lecture on the other campus? Think an internship at the other campus will fit your needs better over the summer? Have an idea to partner with students from another campus on a local service project? You can make it all happen! The possibilities for cross-campus collaborations and innovations are endless.
A full slate of cultural activities like movies, lectures, theater, dance, and music will keep you entertained throughout the school year.
Northern Vermont University Athletics
If you’re an athlete who wants to compete at the varsity level, you’ll play for the team on your campus – the Johnson Badgers or the Lyndon Hornets. Our Division III teams are part of the North Atlantic Conference. As a Hornet or a Badger, you’ll even play each other!
During the 2017-18 academic year, our Lyndon and Johnson campuses continue to exist as separate colleges while we transition to a single university. Many links on our new website (NorthernVermont.edu) will take you to either the Johnson State College website or the Lyndon State College website, where you can get current, in-depth information about our programs, policies, and people. Over the course of the next year, we will continue to build and develop the NorthernVermont.edu website, which will become the single source of information for both campuses when we officially become one institution in July 2018.
For questions or comments about our new website or for assistance locating information for either campus, please contact Melissa.Weinstein@NorthernVermont.edu.
