Johnston State College will honor veterans and celebrate Veterans Day with a number of free activities on campus starting at 4 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 11. The public is invited to participate, and donations will be accepted for the Northeast Disabled Athletes Association (NDAA) and a local veterans’ service organization.
Geoffrey Pippenger of the office of Sen. Bernie Sanders will deliver remarks on the senator’s behalf at 6:15 p.m. in the SHAPE Center. Mr. Pippenger’s main area of focus as a constituent advocate for the senator is veterans’ affairs.
Other activities include:
A visit by the Mobile Vet Center from 4 to 6:30 p.m., with representatives available to answer questions and offer support to veterans, military-connected students and others. The Mobile Vet Center will be parked on the Quad in the center of campus. Staff will be available to answer questions about Veterans Administration and GI Bill benefits and resources, college preparation and more.
An information session on veterans’ services from 5 to 6 p.m. in the SHAPE multi-gym. Light refreshments will be served.
A Color Guard presentation by the local VFW and American Legion organizations, to include a bugler and rifle salute in honor of veterans, at 6 p.m. on the Quad.
A wheelchair basketball game between JSC and NDAA athletes starting at 6:30 p.m. in the SHAPE varsity gym.
Free parking is available in the Bentley Hall lot, accessible via the main entrance to campus from Clay Hill Road.
