The 22nd annual Thrown-A-Thon, at which students and the general public create ceramic items from clay to sell, will be noon-midnight Oct. 14 at the Johnson State College ceramics studio.
The fee for members of the public to participate is $5 per person. The artwork made is donated to the studio, where students dry, fire, glaze and re-fire the pieces to sell at JSC’s annual Holiday Ceramics Sale, which will be Nov. 16.
Proceeds will go to Operation Smile, an organization that provides free surgery for children born with a cleft palate.
Over the years, JSC has donated enough money to Operation Smile for 47 facial reconstructive surgeries, in addition to handmade quilts and hospital gowns. In recent years, the college’s donation has been matched by various corporations.
The ceramics sale also has raised money for other organizations, including Vermont CARES and the Clarina Howard Nichols Center.
