SERVE

Students working for Habitat for Humanity

SERVE at Johnson State College offers thoughtfully organized direct-service opportunities that address specific social issues and community needs.

The mission of SERVE is to provide quality service learning opportunities, promote student leadership development, and advance the mission of Johnson State College, while supporting partnerships between the college and the local communities.

We believe that service learning promotes lifelong active citizenship, where community becomes a priority in values and life choices.

Our programs include:

SERVE Fri

SERVE Fri offers a variety of local service opportunities for students, staff and faculty every Friday throughout the academic year. Volunteers meet beforehand to learn about a social issue, travel throughout Lamoille County to provide direct service for community organizations, afterwards, members reflect and celebrate the experience. This is a great way to get involved, meet other students, and get to know the greater community. Learn more here

Break Away

Break Away, the alternative spring break program, gives students the chance to engage in local, national and international community service projects. Johnson State College was a founding chapter of the Break Away program (which currently has a network of over 100 chapter schools), and since 1991, SERVE Program has sponsored 101 Break Away trips with 1007 participants.
