Senior Year To-Do List

  • Graduating seniorsSeptember

  • Identify the colleges that interest you.  
  • Call or write the colleges for information on admissions  requirements and financial procedures.
  • Get organized - compile a list of admissions and financial aid deadlines.
  • Register for the SAT or ACT Test.
  • Schedule college visits.
  • Attend a JSC campus tour & info session.
  • October

  • Take the SAT test.
  • Attend a JSC Open House
  • Meet with a JSC admissions counselor at your high school - check with your guidance counselor for details.
  • Ask teachers and guidance counselors for letters of recommendation.
  • Vermont students — attend the VSAC Financial Night at your high school. (Programs are held at each high school in the state from October - January.)
  • Attend a JSC campus tour & info session.
  • November

  • Take the SAT test if you're not happy with your previous scores.
  • Send test scores to the colleges on your list.
  • Attend a JSC Open House
  • Pick up state grant applications are available in your high school guidance office.
  • Research scholarship opportunities at your high school, in your community and at the colleges where you are applying.
  • Attend a JSC campus tour & info session.

  • December

  • Apply for admission to JSC; make copies of everything before mailing. (JSC has a rolling admissions policy which means applications are reviewed throughout the year. We encourage high school seniors to apply by March 1 and the earlier, the better!)
  • Attend Early Admission Days. Bring your application, transcript, test scores and letters of recommendation to JSC, have an interview and leave the campus with a decision! Application fees will be waived for these days. 
  • January

  • Happy New Year!
  • Parents and students - complete your income tax forms as soon as possible.
  • To meet JSC's financial aid priority deadline of March 1, please complete and mail the FAFSA to the federal processor as soon after January 1 as possible and no later than February 15.
    • Be sure to include JSC's Title IV Code, 003688, on the FAFSA.
    • Use estimated income tax information if you have not filed your tax forms.
    • Follow instructions for signature requirements, use appropriate   social security numbers on all applications, and make copies of all documents.

  • Complete JSC scholarship application.
  •  Attend a JSC campus tour & info session.
  • March

  • Note that the admissions and financial aid priority application deadline is March 1.
  • Note that the Scholarship Application deadline is March 1.
  • Review your Student Aid Report (SAR) which will be sent to you from the federal processor if you applied for aid. If necessary, make corrections on the SAR and return it to the  processor.
  • April

  • Financial aid and scholarships award letters will be mailed.
  • Attend Spring Open House where you can tour campus, meet current JSC students and attend the student life fair to learn about every club and extracurricular activity on campus.
  • Attend a JSC campus tour & info session.
  • May

  • Decide on the college you will attend — mail your tuition deposit to JSC!
  • Logon to the MyJSC Portal to accept your financial aid award.
  • June/July

  • Congratulations on your graduation!
  • Attend a summer orientation session at JSC.
