Penny Howrigan, Associate Dean of Enrollment Services
Penny heads up the Admissions Team. Her get-it-done attitude, her attention to detail, her sense of humor, her genuine care for students and families beyond just the admissions process, and her commitment to the College make her wonderful to work with and a terrific person to know. You’ll meet Penny when you visit campus, and she’ll be there to check in on your progress, help you resolve any problems and celebrate your successes throughout your college career.
Patrick Rogers, Director of Admissions
Patrick is a force of nature. He’s a passionate advocate for the college, a loyal alum, a highly effective recruiter whose ability to connect with prospective students from all walks of life has opened up the possibility of JSC for countless students — and he’s a heck of a rugby player! In fact, as Rugby Club advisor, Patrick spearheaded fundraising efforts on behalf of the club that have led to a recently renovated field for generations of JSC Ruggers and their fans to enjoy.
Patrick is the contact for prospective students from the Vermont counties of Essex, Orleans, Orange, Windham and Windsor, as well as New Hampshire, Maine and Rhode Island. He also reviews applications for the Massachusetts counties of Worcester, Middlesex, Essex, Norfolk, Suffolk, Bristol, Plymouth, Barnstable, Dukes and Nantucket.
Joye Lyon, Assistant Director of Admissions & Early College/Jump Start Coordinator
Joye began her career in the Admissions Office at the reception desk, so she knows the office and its processes inside and out. She puts her knowledge, experience and genuine friendliness to work on behalf of prospective students and families and the college every day. Despite her gentle demeanor, Joye knows how to get things done — just ask any of the student Admissions workers she coordinates!
Joye is the contact for prospective students from New York and the Vermont counties of Lamoille, Chittenden, Franklin, Caledonia and Grand Isle. Joye also is the coordinator of our Jump Start and Early College programs for high school students.
Elga Gruner, Associate Director of Admissions & International Student Coordinator
Elga’s your woman when it comes to information about the international student’s experience at Johnson State College. Born and raised in Indonesia, Elga is a JSC alum, having received both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from JSC. In addition to being our lead on international admissions, Elga is the point person for transfer students and students who are interested in our External Degree Program.
Tommy O’Connor, Admissions Counselor
Enthusiastic. Professional. A nice guy. That’s what you hear when you ask people about their impressions of Tommy. A JSC alum, Tommy is a great person to talk to about the advantages of going to college and living in rural Vermont. He knows the college and its programs inside and out, but is especially excited to talk to you about how the incredible natural splendor that surrounds us here at JSC provides great opportunities for academics, professional development, and, not least of all, fun.
Tommy is the contact for prospective students from the Vermont counties of Addison, Rutland, Washington and Bennington, as well as Connecticut and New Jersey. Additionally, he reviews applications for the Massachusetts counties of Berkshire, Franklin, Hampshire, Hampden and all students outside of New England and New York.
Bethany Harrington, Admissions Specialist
Bethany is the longest-serving member of the Admissions team, and continues to greet each day and each prospective student with a smile. Her upbeat attitude and vast knowledge of Johnson State College’s programs, procedures and policies, and people, as well as her willingness to pitch in and help until the job is done make her an excellent resource for students and families and a wonderful person to know. Bethany’s office is ‘behind the scenes’ in the Admissions suite, but chances are you’ll talk to her or exchange emails at some point during the application process.
Andrea Bourdeau, Admissions Specialist
Smart, funny and hardworking, Andrea is another behind-the-scenes team member whose work is essential to helping families navigate the admissions process. She ensures that we have all the information we need to create smooth progress from the ‘applicant pile’ to the ‘new student pile.’ (Metaphorically, of course. This is the digital age after all!) Andrea is always willing to go to great lengths to make sure that your questions or issues are resolved quickly and to the satisfaction of everyone involved.
Chris Erickson, Campus Visit & Outreach Coordinator
Chris is the first person you’re likely to meet from the Admissions Office. As the Campus Visit and Outreach Coordinator, he makes sure that you know about the different events for prospective students that are happening on campus or in your area. And when you make it to campus for a visit, Chris is the one who takes care of all the details, so you get to see the things you want to see, talk to the people you want to talk to, and maybe even discover some things you didn’t know about. As a recent alum, Chris can offer an in-depth perspective on the student experience at JSC.
