The following programs are available statewide through EDP. Additional degree programs are available to students who are able to attend classes on the Johnson State College campus. Programs with an asterisk (*) can be completed fully online except for any internship that may be required.
Students seeking a degree in Business through EDP can choose between a concentration in accounting or management. This is a practical, broad-based program that provides the skills and knowledge needed to run business finances and operations, succeed in a variety of management and financial positions, or pursue graduate study.
Childhood Education (B.A.)
Childhood Education is an innovative degree program at JSC that offers licensure endorsement to teach elementary education. Students seeking endorsement also select a second major, such as a B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies, or a 30-credit concentration in the liberal arts or sciences, and they complete a full year of student teaching in the classroom. It also is possible for EDP students to earn an additional endorsement in special education at the K-6 level, but this requires attending some classes on campus at JSC.
Interdisciplinary Studies (B.A.)
Students in this program design their own plan of study in three areas of the liberal arts and sciences to satisfy their personal interests and goals. They also develop the ability to explore connections and find patterns among their areas of studies — skills much in demand in our increasingly global and complex society. Graduates go on to careers or further study in many fields.
Professional Studies (B.A.)*
One of the more popular EDP options, this is a self-designed program available exclusively to EDP students. Students work with their advisor to combine previous college credit and life experience to create a degree focused on specific professional interests such as business, psychology, or even wellness and alternative medicine. More than a third of EDP students choose this program as a way to structure a degree from a variety of previously earned college credits. The area of focus is limited only by your interests and the broad range of course offerings available through EDP.
This degree explores a wide range of theories concerning human behavior, providing a foundation for many careers and for related graduate work. The psychology curriculum at JSC is comprehensive and thorough. Our faculty push students to question contentious issues in psychology and explore the psychological aspects of everything from the wars to gender to aging.
Wellness & Alternative Medicine (B.S.)
Johnson State College is among the nation’s first accredited colleges to offer a science-based undergraduate degree program in wellness and alternative medicine Students explore the social, cultural, political and psychological dimensions of various systems of health care. It is a rigorous program that emphasizes holistic models for health, wellness and healing. Graduates are prepared for medical- and health-related graduate programs and careers in holistic health care, naturopathic medicine, mind-body therapies and other healing occupations.
