Do I have to be a Vermont resident to apply to JSC Online?
No! While all JSC Online students pay in-state rates, you can be located almost anywhere in the U.S. and complete your degree via JSC Online. The only exception is Massachusetts, which has no plans to sign on to the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements.
Can I complete a JSC Online degree faster than a campus-based degree?
JSC Online students are eligible to participate in 14-week or intensive 7-week courses. While it is possible that students who take consecutive 7-week courses would be able to complete their degree requirements relatively quickly, be aware that not all courses are offered as 7-week intensives.
Is financial aid available to students enrolled in JSC Online?
Yes! The financial aid process is the same for all undergraduate students. However, please be aware: federal regulations require that you complete a minimum of 6 credits a semester to receive federal student aid. If you take two 7-week intensive courses (3 credits each) in a given semester, you must successfully complete both to receive any financial aid for that semester. Loans cannot be disbursed until your second 7-week intensive course begins; please note that there will be no cash advances or book vouchers available. Learn more about Financial Aid at JSC.
Is a degree earned through JSC Online worth less than one earned through the traditional campus-based program?
Not at all. Whether you earn your degree online, on campus or in your community through our JSC in Your Community (External Degree Program), you will receive your degree from Johnson State College, an accredited, nonprofit institution established in 1828. JSC is accredited by the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education of the New England Association of Schools & Colleges. This accreditation applies to all programs offered by Johnson State College.
Will I be required to purchase books and course materials?
Your instructors will let you know what materials you will need for your courses. Required materials and textbooks may be purchased or, in most cases, rented, from the JSC Summit Bookstore.
Are online instructors as qualified as traditional classroom-based instructors?
Yes. Just as with our classroom-based faculty, online instructors are experienced faculty who are experts in their field who love to teach and are eager to share their professional experience with students.
Will my JSC Online degree be recognized by master’s or doctoral programs if I decide to apply to graduate school?
Yes! By successfully completing your requirements through JSC Online, you will receive a degree from Johnson State College, a fully accredited, nonprofit institution of higher education. It is the same degree that all JSC graduates receive.
