B.S. in Wellness & Alternative Medicine was the perfect stepping stone for Adriane.
Adriane Morrison-Taylor knew in high school that she wanted to be a doctor. Inspired by her course work at JSC, she learned to go after experiences that would get her there. “It was a call to action for people to find their purpose and passion in life and follow that,” she said.
Adriane’s passion is for alternative medicine. She had seen from her travels that a naturopathic approach was common in other countries, which gave her confidence in choosing JSC’s Wellness & Alternative Medicine program. With this major, she could blend advanced science courses she’d need to become a doctor with classes on non-Western medicine such as acupuncture, Ayurveda and massage therapy.
“The program was the perfect balance between traditional medicine and alternative medicine for me,” she said. “When I look back at my transcript, I see that every single course I took was perfectly tailored to prepare preparing me for my next step.”
Adriane graduated with the class of 2013 and was accepted to the National College of Natural Medicine in Portland, Oregon — one of only seven naturopathic medical schools accredited in the U.S. The individual attention of her small program and the clinical experience she gained in the lab made great additions to her med-school application.
“While enrolled at JSC, I was able to fulfill my pre-med requirements while also receiving a holistic education in global and alternative medicine,” she said. “The faculty had great experience to share and were extremely enthusiastic about their work, which really helped me engage and succeed as a student.”
Today, as she approaches graduation from medical school, Adriane is eager to embark on a career as a naturopathic physician – a career she started by enrolling in the Wellness & Alternative Medicine program at JSC.
