Bachelor of Arts Degree in Journalism

This program prepares students for the realities of a career in journalism. Course requirements provide students with a strong, practical background in the best practices of news and feature writing, investigative reporting, creative nonfiction, newspaper publishing, photojournalism, and digital media technology.  Students are also immersed in the ethics and history of journalism as a profession. In addition to courses specific to journalism, students also develop a reporting specialization in a content area of their choosing through cross-disciplinary coursework and a capstone reporting internship at an area newspaper or other news outlets.

The hub of the program is Basement Medicine, the college’s student-published, award-winning community newspaper that meets high professional standards.  This publication acclimates students to the demands, deadlines, and excitement of publishing a newspaper in both hardcopy and web editions.
