Stearns Renovation Project Blog: January 2008

What's Happening This Week (January 29 - February 1)

Construction on the new bookstore in Dewey is proceeding quickly. Demolition, framing and rough electrical are complete and sheetrock is currently being installed. Glass storefront windows and the new doors should arrive within the next few days.

The Dewey Cafe is slated to reopen the week of February 11.

Doors have been installed in Dewey Soft Seating in preparation for its new, temporary function as the Baselodge and 1867 Room. The space will be available for meetings and a student "hang-out" area as of March 2.

The ATM in Dewey Soft Seating is still operational. It will be moved to an area outside the SGA office within a few weeks.

What's Happening This Week (January 21 - 25)

The Stearns Dining Hall will remain open during construction through the end of the spring 2008 semester.

Demolition begins in Dewey Campus Center to make way for the new college bookstore: the current bookstore will stay open in Stearns Hall until Winter Break (February 25-29) and will reopen in its new location in Dewey on March 1.

Dewey Commons Cafe will be closed until at least January 25. If possible, the cafe will open again during construction. If not, an alternative, a la carte dining option will be made available — stay tuned for details.

The classroom in Dewey has been relocated. The JSC Registrar's Office has sent e-mails to affected students informing you of new classroom locations - please check your JSC e-mail account and reprint your spring 2008 semester schedule to make sure you have the most recent classroom location information. Signs will also be posted informing you where your class has moved.

The classroom in Stearns Hall has been relocated to Governors Hall sub-floor. If you do not already have access to Governors Hall, please go to the Public Safety Office (which remains in Stearns until further notice). Signs will be posted to direct you to your classroom.

The Basement Medicine office has moved to Governors Hall sub-floor.
