Stearns Renovation Project Blog: February 2008

What's Happening This Week (February 18 -22)

Construction on the temporary location of the Public Safety Office in Dewey will be completed this week. The Student Government Association and WJSC have donated space to house the office.

The architects and contractors working on the Stearns Renovation Project have completed the bid packages for subcontractors for the project. They expect the bid to be awarded in early March, with demolition at Stearns beginning during the second half of March.

From February 22 at 3 p.m. until March 1 (JSC Winter Break), the mail room will be closed and moved to SHAPE. Students WILL NOT have access to mailboxes. Please be sure to pick up your mail before Friday, February 22 at 3 p.m.!

The Base Lodge performance venue and the 1867 Room will be relocated from Stearns to Dewey Soft Seating during Winter Break. For the duration of the construction, the space will be very multi-purpose: it will serve as a conference room and casual seating during the day, and will house evening entertainment at night.

The Women's Center will be going virtual! Women's Center meetings and events will be held in various spaces throughout campus — keep your eyes open for more information!

What's Happening This Week (February 11-15)

The Dewey Cafe is now open!

The JSC Bookstore will be getting window glass, doors, carpet, tile and lighting. The move from the old bookstore space to the new bookstore space in Dewey will take place during the week of February 18 - 25.

BOOKSTORE HOURS WILL BE AS FOLLOWS DURING THE WEEK OF FEBRUARY 18 -25

Monday, 2/18: Open between 12 and 2 p.m.

Tuesday 2/19 - Friday 2/22: Open for "essentials" only (e.g. headache medicine)

Week of February 25: CLOSED

Construction on the temporary home of Public Safety (in the SGA office) will be completed during the week of February 18.

What's Happening This Week (February 4 - 8)

Glass storefront windows and new doors will arrive for the new JSC Bookstore this week.

The Dewey Cafe will reopen next week, the week of February 11.

Construction will begin on the Student Government Association (SGA) Office this week. 1/3 of the space will be partitioned off to form temporary offices for Public Safety. The lockers, closets and sink in this space will be removed during this time. The SGA will be working with impacted students and departments.

WJSC, Radio Johnson, will be relocating its production studio to provide storage space for the SGA. Additionally, WJSC will relinquish its office to provide additional space for Public Safety.
