Stearns Renovation Project Blog: August 2008
What's Happening Now
- The dining room is slated to open for service on August 22, though work will continue on the building.
- The Stearns Grand Opening is scheduled for October — more details to come!
- The renovated building will have a number of environmentally sustainable features. For example:
-
* Flooring on the first floor is Marmoleum, an all-natural product made of linseed oil, pine rosins, wood flour, jute fibers, and environmentally responsible pigments for color.
* Wall coverings on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd floors are Marlite, and contain 100 percent recycled content. The company is committed to environmental responsibility and does minimal harvesting in areas of reforestation.
* Carpeting throughout the facility will be PVC free, and contain AlphaSan anti-bacteria protection. All material is recyclable and contains at least 10 percent post-consumer content.
* For paint in Stearns, we'll be using Benjamin Moore EcoSpec, which is low odor and low Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC). The paint has been certified "Greenguard Standard" and "Greenguard for Children & Schools."
-
- Public Safety is now in its new, permanent home in Dewey Campus Center. Stop by to see their new digs!
- Please remember, all visitors to the Stearns site must register with the construction office on the north side of Stearns Hall. Hard hats and other protective gear must be worn at all times. Please use the stairs to the east of Governors to access the lower parking lots when possible.
