Stearns Renovation Project Blog: April 2008
What's Happening This Week (April 21-30)
- JSC President Barbara Murphy, Chairman of the Vermont State Colleges Board of Trustees Gary Moore, Vermont State Colleges Chancellor Robert Clarke, Dean of Students Dave Bergh, Department of Writing and Literature Chair Andrea Perham, SGA President Jon Harris, and members of the construction and design companies working on the renovation spoke at an April 24 groundbreaking ceremony for Stearns Hall.
What's Happening This Week (April 14 - 18)
- A ground-breaking ceremony to celebrate the beginning of construction on Stearns Hall will take place at 1:30 p.m. April 24.
- Demolition began on April 7. To date, demolition is completed on the first floor, and about 80 percent completed on the second floor (except the kitchen).
- The contractors have started cutting the floor on the first floor for the elevator tower and new restroom facilities. This work will continue for the next couple of weeks.
- Within the next 10 days, crews will excavate the north side of the building to install a perimeter drain. This drain will prevent water infiltration into the first and second floors of the building.
- Immediately following Commencement, all dining operations will move to the SHAPE facility. A mobile kitchen will be installed on-site on or around June 10.
- Please note that this is a construction zone. All visitors to the site must register with the construction office on the north side of Stearns. Hard hats and other protective gear must be worn at all times. Please use the stairs to the east of Governor's to access the lower parking lots when possible. The ramp continues to be available for wheelchair access.
