Jennifer Trovato

Studio Art Major,
Baltimore, Md.

Jennifer Trovato's childhood was far from typical. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Jennifer says that she spent much of her childhood on her family horse farm, periodically sailing with her father to the Bahamas and Florida Keys for his charter sailboat business. Her mother is an artist, so Jennifer also spent a lot of time learning from her. Her interest in art grew through middle and high school, so pursuing art at the college level was a natural choice.

She started her college-level studies at Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Georgia. When she decided it was time for a change, both of schools and geographical locations, Johnson State College seemed an ideal choice.

Jennifer says that in addition to the fact that the JSC art program encourages students to explore a variety of artistic mediums, she chose the school "because of its teaching reputation, the beautiful campus and the small class sizes." Being here has confirmed that she made the right choice. "My experience here at Johnson State College has been nothing but pleasant.  In the Art Department, my fellow students have been very kind and welcoming. The faculty is full of passionate, knowledgeable, free thinkers who go out of their way to give each student the individual attention they need."

This attention goes beyond the present, says Jennifer. The faculty and school are helping her with the future, too. Jennifer hopes to turn her love for art into a career, selling her work in galleries, and perhaps even owning a gallery at some point. She feels like this dream is being supported by her teachers — something that makes it different than other schools, she says. "I feel the faculty at JSC truly cares about me and my success as a professional artist."
