Why Work?

Working

The first and most obvious benefit of student employment is financial. Students gain more than some money, however, when they take on a part-time job. A survey conducted by NSEA (National Student Employment Association) and Cornell University asked students why they work. After paying college bills and earning money for expenses, the top reasons cited were the following:

  •  Jobs provide opportunities for career exploration

  •  The work experience is enjoyable/fulfilling

  •  Jobs provide opportunities to make career contacts

  •  Working enriches academic experiences

  •  Jobs provide opportunities for social interaction

  •  Jobs help teach time management
