An Overview of Our Services
ITS is more than just computer labs, though. Here is an overview of how we support the JSC community:
MyJSC: The MyJSC Portal (sometimes called "MyJSC," sometimes called "The Portal") is your online campus connection to MyJSC course content, JSC email, JSC campus and VSC announcements, library resources, VSC Web Services, and more. . .
VSC Web Services: This is the VSC student, faculty, and staff information system. Here students can access billing statements, grades, class schedules, financial information, and more; faculty have access to class rosters, advisee lists, grading, etc. You can download a pdf of the VSC Web Services User Guide here.
JSC E-mail
- Check your email often! JSC email is the primary means of relaying important and official information at the college. Therefore, checking your email is essential. E-mail quotas are set at 1 gigabyte; please be advised your account will be disabled, if your quota is exceeded. You will receive one warning when your quota reaches 750 megabytes.
- Your email address is: firstname.lastname@jsc.edu
- Please be sure to verify your email address before giving it to others! When the system encounters a duplicate name, the second name/address is assigned as first.last2@jsc.edu, when the system encounters a third, it is assigned as first.last3@jsc.edu, others that may follow, will be incremented by 1.
- To verify your email address: log on to your email account, using Outlook Web Access (OWA). Hold your mouse over your “Inbox” or over the display name, located at the top of the folder list. Either method will display your email address in the status bar, located on the bottom, left-hand side of the window. Please be aware that the status bar option must be turned on, though; for Internet Explorer 7, click on “Toolbars, from the “Tools” option, then click on the “Status Bar” option.
- To access your JSC email, after logging on to the MyJSC portal, click on the ‘E-mail’ link under ‘JSC Email’ and login again.
JSC Network Services: All students are provided with 1 gigabyte of network storage space, called “My Documents” folder. Your “My Documents” folder will be backed up every night. Please be advised your account will be disabled, if your quota is exceeded. You will receive one warning when your quota reaches 900 megabytes.
Your user name and password will provide you with on-line access to MyJSC, VSC Web Services, JSC email and network resources, and usage of JSC computers.
Connecting your Computer to the Internet on Campus
- You need an Ethernet patch cable to connect your computer to the network jack. Cables are located in the RA office of your building
- You need instructions for configuring your computer’s operating system to connect to the Internet. Instructions for Windows XP, Windows VISTA, and Mac are located with the Ethernet patch cables.
- You need your JSC user name and password. If you didn't activate your account before coming to campus, you may go to the Academic Computing Center (LLC227) to activate it; a friendly student lab assistant will be there to assist you.
- All other Internet devices — gaming devices, iPods, etc. — can be manually registered by the IT department upon request, by logging onto the MyJSC portal, and clicking onto the Help Desk link. Please use the guest login option, and include the following information in the work order request: your full name; your JSC user name; residence hall and room number information; and your phone number. A member of the IT department will respond within 2 business working days.
- Dumb hubs are permitted. Please be aware that when you register your computer or other Internet device with the Campus Manager Network system for the first time, you’ll need to have the device plugged directly into the network drop, though.
- Please remember that attaching personal network devices, such as wireless access points, or routers, into any campus network jack is NOT permitted.
