About JSC Counseling Services
Welcome to the JSC Counseling Center website! Becoming a college student is an exciting time that brings many adjustments and challenges. Students come to the Counseling Center to talk with us about their feelings, concerns and choices they face during their college years. We are here to listen, support, and help you to make the most of your educational experience.
Why Visit the Counseling Center?
You do not have to have severe problems to come to the Counseling Center. The Center is available for supporting students who may be dealing with a variety of levels of concerns and needs — whether it be a single check-in session to address a situational issue or a more committed, developmentally focused therapy to address more complicated concerns, build effective coping, stress and self-management skills, establish and maintain healthy self-care, enhance resiliency, address self-sabotaging patterns, reduce risks, recognize and maintain healthy choice making and enhance meaningful, more secure connections with others. We also are available for crisis consultations, assessments and referrals.
The Counseling Center is For Everyone
In addition, we strive to foster a healthy, caring college community that serves the personal development of its members. The Center recognizes the value of diversity in the JSC community —embracing and celebrating the range of ethnic and racial backgrounds, religious beliefs, sexual orientations, socio-economic backgrounds, and physical and mental abilities of the Johnson State College community.
Free and Confidential
We frequently meet with students, faculty and others who are worried about students, friends, or roommates. We can help understand what the problems might be and how the concerned other can intervene. These and our other services are confidential. The costs for Counseling Center Services are covered via JSC institutional support, so students have no insurance or co-pay fees.
