FERPA
Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act
Under the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), you, the student, have the right to authorize the college to release information from your educational record to other individuals (i.e. parent(s), spouse, employer(s). Your educational record includes, but is not limited to, items such as grade reports, transcripts, billing and financial aid information.
All students wishing to authorize the college to release information to third parties will need to complete the new web-based FERPA form available through Web Services.
-
How to Complete the Web-Based FERPA Form
- Follow the instructions below to complete the FERPA Authorization form — note that a link to the full VSC FERPA policy is available from the form.
Log in to the MyJSC portal: http://MyJSC.vsc.edu - Click on the VSC Web Services box
- Click on "Students"
- Select FERPA Authorization Form under the Academic
- Profile heading - an email confirmation will be sent to your JSC email account once you submit the form. Note that you may update this form at any time.
Please note that in completing the form you will create an “access code” which you will need to give to the person(s) you authorize. They will need to provide this access code to college officials when requesting information from your educational record.

Reasons for Authorizing Another Person to Access Your Record
Many students find it helpful to authorize their parents to access their records so that their parent may discuss the student’s accounts with college officials — bills, for example.- If you decide not to authorize another to access your account, the college may not discuss your record with them.
