What Can I Do With a Mathematics Major?

Description of the Major

The study of mathematics is the foundation upon which many teachers, scientists, statisticians, accountants, computer specialists, engineers, and other professionals have built successful careers. Approximately one half of our graduating mathematics majors obtain teaching licensure for secondary school mathematics.

Our department is committed to helping students succeed in whatever mathematics course they may be taking. Upper-level mathematics classes enroll small numbers of students enabling the mathematics faculty to give each student highly personalized attention in these courses. Each year we award Safford scholarships to outstanding students majoring in mathematics as a result of an endowment given to the department for this purpose. The mathematics department at Johnson State College is a small vibrant group with outstanding resources.
