Students Clean Up Trash, Tires from Lamoille River

A group of Johnson State College students spent their Friday cleaning trash and tires from the Lamoille River as part of the college's SERVE Local program.Nineteen students from Johnson State College removed 26 tires and six bags of trash from the Lamoille River on Aug. 30.

 

The group included students volunteering through Johnson State's SERVE community service program and also members of an Introduction to Outdoor Education class. Canoes were supplied by JSC Outing Club and Berts Boats.

 

The SERVE Local program sponsors community-service events to connect students with Johnson and other local communities and provide help where it's needed. The program aims to encourage student leadership development and provide assistance to JSC's community partners, including animal shelters, nursing homes, community centers and outdoor areas.
