Vermont Women Photographers Featured at JSC's Julian Scott Memorial Gallery
“The National Museum of Women in the Arts (NMWA) brings recognition to the achievements of women artists of all periods and nationalities by exhibiting, preserving, acquiring, and researching art by women and by teaching the public about their accomplishments.” — NMWA
Johnson State College will host the exhibition “Women to Watch: Four Photographers Selected by the Vermont State Committee of the National Museum of Women in the Arts,” January 21 to February 9.
The exhibition will be held at Johnson State College’s Julian Scott Memorial Gallery in the Dibden Center for the Arts. Gallery hours are Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. The exhibition is free and open to the public.
This exhibition features the work of Bethany Bond, Luciana Frigerio, Tarrah Krajnak & Wilka Roig, and Lynne Weinstein (three women and one two-woman team) whose work stood out as exceptional examples of Vermont photography. Curated by professional photographer, former UVM faculty member, and current JSC fulltime faculty member, John Miller, this exhibition shows how the camera not only captures a moment but a personality, an era, a photographer and a composition - all in one snap, one gesture, one image.
Tarrah Krajnak & Wilka Roig were the photographers ultimately selected by the National Museum of Women in the Arts to be part of an exhibition in Washington, DC. Their body of work touches the rich depths of collaboration, partnership, and work that is simultaneously separate, individual, and united. The merit, however, of all the photographers in this exhibition - Bethany Bond, Luciana Frigerio, and Lynne Weinstein - is of very high caliber; each artist creates with photography a beautiful investigation. Bethany Bond explores life cycles through visual metaphor, Luciana Frigerio excavates the realms of living and non-living in black and white, and Lynne Weinstein follows a veil of light as it falls on botanicals, fruits, and human form.
Please join us for this exhibition that runs from January 21 - Feburary 9. Gallery talks will be held:
January 31, 3 p.m. - curator John Miller, and Wilka Roig & Tarrah Krajnak
February 7, 3 p.m. - Bethany Bond and Lynne Jaeger Weinstein
