Library News: Fall 2011
Electronic Resources Selected for Academic Year
Integration and expanded coverage are the keywords for our digital collection development activities this semester. Beginning with our subscription to the JSTOR Language and Literature collection, we have added more than 60 full text journals to complement the indexing in MLA International Bibliography and to leverage our journal holdings in Expanded Academic ASAP and the Literature Resource Center. Because linking to full text articles and/or interlibrary loan forms is fully enabled in most of our databases, document delivery is remarkably streamlined. Moreover, many of our databases support downloading to RefWorks, the citation management system we began subscribing to last year.
To help support our music curriculum, the library has added the Naxos Music Library. In addition to being able to stream Naxos’s extensive collection of classical recordings, patrons can also hear world, jazz, and rock performances from over 320 independent labels.
Our electronic book and reference collections continue to grow as well. The Credo and Gale reference collections and EBSCO eBooks (formerly netLibrary) are all included in the online catalog to provide improved access for our on-campus and remote users. We have also added PsycBOOKS to round out our first-rate online psychology resources: Psychology and Behavioral Sciences Collection, PsycARTICLES and PsycINFO.
Recently, we began the process of automating production of our pathfinders using the LibGuides system. As they become available, the revised guides will be featured on the library website for promoting subject access to our print and online collections.
If you find all these changes dizzying, please remember that JSC librarians are available to help you plan a strategy for using the many resources we have selected for your research needs. We welcome your emails, phone calls, and reference questions and hope you have a successful academic year.
