Jane Stearns Memorial Endowment

This endowment was established in memory of Jane Stearns, who maintained a lifelong interest in athletics and education.  She coached and officiated for high school girls’ basketball for many years and was also a swimmer and accredited to teach life saving courses.  Mr. and Mrs. Prescott Stearns lived in Stanhope, New Jersey, and had been married for 57 years when Mrs. Stearns passed away in February, 2004. Mr. Stearns also gives a scholarship in memory of his mother, Helen Braley Stearns, Class of 1913.  Although neither are alumni of Johnson State College, both Prescott and Jane Stearns have strongly supported the College’s mission.  This endowment was established in 2005.

The Jane Stearns Memorial Scholarship goes to an upper-class student in good academic standing, who is involved in athletics (but not necessarily a star athlete), and has financial need.
