The Annual Ellsworth Lecture is funded by the Robert A. Ellsworth Trust and brings visiting scholars to campus to speak publicly about their work.
28th Annual Ellsworth Lecture
"Vermont Enters the Civil War"
Tuesday, April 17, 2012, 7 p.m.
This year's Ellsworth Lecture presents a Civil War living history program with performers in authentic costume.
From 1-5 p.m., military and civilian reenactors will set up an encampment on campus, weather permitting, or display various aspects of life in the Civil War era at the gymnasium. At 7 p.m., Vermont Governor Erastus Fairbanks (portrayed by William McKone) describes his role in the initial phase of the American Civil War. President Abraham Lincoln (Robert Bushnell) provides a national perspective on the conflict. Both reenactors will afterward answer questions and also offer an opportunity for photos with them.
