Frank Stellato New SGA President

By Emma Post

Sophomore Frank Stellato has been elected the new Johnson State College Student Government Association (SGA) president.

Stellato decided to run for president to become more involved with the college. “I think it’s a great school,” he said. “But I feel the students need to start being more active with student government and I wanted to help bridge that gap.”

Stellato is also president of the JSC National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws club, A young man, Frank Stellato, sitting in a wooded area, with a camera hanging from his neck.which he started up last semester with senior Matt Zimmermen and freshman Zachary Boykins. “I’ve gotten to know a lot more people through NORML,” Stellato said. “I’ve networked and I think having someone in office who already has those pre-existing connections to your average students is an important thing.”

Stellato is interested in working on removing the trays from Stearns dining hall. “A lot of other schools that have done it and kept data on it have seen a dramatic reduction in waste,” he said. “Kids aren’t wasting as much food if they don’t have trays not to mention you don’t have to run the dishwasher and use a lot of water to clean them. It’s not a definite thing but it’s a little thing to keep in mind that could potentially help out.”

Aside from being hands-on involved with the JSC community and students, Stellato is looking forward to working with Krista Wendling, the student activities coordinator. “She’s great and really helpful. She’s got her head in the right place and is all about the students,” he said. “She wants us to be having fun and enjoying our time here. I’m really looking forward to working with her.”

Stellato’s main interest is keeping an open mind and ear to all students. “Whatever students want, and whatever is feasible and we can do to make JSC better is what we’re going for,” he said.

Ashley Favreau was elected vice president. The new slate of senators include Jon Owen, Cassie Johndrow, Ioan Sabau, Sean Van Hoesen, Ben Massey, Noel Porter, Ryan Anderson, and Eddie Buczynski.

The SGA is taking applications for the following cabinet positions: treasurer, secretary, PR director, liaison to the town of Johnson, director of clubs, and director of student activities and are available in the SGA Office in Dewey.
