Re-evaluating
Nuclear Dependency

America receives about twenty percent of its electrical energy from nuclear power. The nuclear industry depends on huge government subsidies granted by Congress. Like a teenager dependent on mom and dad for their activities the nuclear industry uses its Political Action Committees (PAC) to contribute to the campaigns of representatives that will aid in their goals. Representatives rely on the money funding their campaign and often (very often) vote in the favor of the people that support them. Like an actor winning the Oscar when time comes to give something back to those who helped, they’ve already written a list of whom to thank.

The Charlmont Restaurant: Dinner with Brittany Rhoads

What do Josh and I do when our favorite dining place, Stearns, has closed for the evening? We take it as an opportunity to head somewhere new and undiscovered. After a short drive to Morrisville, a stop for gas and a wrong turn into a motel parking lot, we found ourselves at The Charlmont.

The parking lot was full, but the building looked as if it could hold more than a few people. Undiscouraged, we headed inside. What we saw was shocking. Now, we know that Vermont is one of the “oldest” states in the nation, but this many folks holding AARP cards was phenomenal. Granted, there were a number of families with crying babies, so I guess the age range averaged out. I looked at Josh with the “lets-get-out-of-here” eyes he knows too well, but he just nudged me along as the waitress seated us.
