Students are now able to receive campus emergency alert text messages on their cell phones thanks to a new system provided by the JSC Public Safety Office.
The new system allows students with text messaging to receive an immediate notification of power outage, snowstorm, fire, or any other event that could lead to a school closing.

Nine first-year seminars are being offered this spring for those students who did not take a seminar first semester. The classes being offered include Nuclear Power and Society; If I Can’t Dance – Keep Your Revolution; Understanding Afghanistan: Past and Present; Interpreting Vermont: History, Culture, and Tourism; Finding Your Passion: Beginning the Quest; Art of Social Imagination; Mathematical Puzzles through History; What is Called Thinking?, and Truthiness 101: Advertising, Industrialization, Globalization.
As in the fall, these courses offer topics that are interdisciplinary and, in many cases, “non traditional” in terms of fitting into any specific discipline.
Why should I get involved?
You are already in college, and the decision is always yours to make. Either you are here for a piece of over priced paper proving that you graduated from college, or you are here for an education.
If you are here for the degree, your college life could be pretty relaxing; there isn’t much effort to meet the requirement for a passing grade. You could kill the extra time any way you wanted to. For those of you who chose to come here for an education, you should go out and get involved in your dorm, or as a volunteer in a school program, or non-profit organization, competing in sports etc.
The JSC Career Center is hosting a job fair on March 26, from 1-3 p.m. in the varsity gym at the SHAPE facility. Employers will be recruiting for full-time and summer employment, as well as volunteer and internship possibilities. All JSC students and alumni are invited to attend. This event is also open to the community.
Prior to the job fair, two workshops will be held to assist students in preparing their resumes and making the most of the job fair. These sessions are available to any student or graduate needing resume assistance, even to those who won’t be attending the job fair.

Room selection for the 2008-2009 academic year is drawing close, as is the deadline for eligible students wishing to live off campus.
Students entering their second year at Johnson State who wish to apply to live off campus must make this request by Tuesday, April 1. Requests for single rooms and prime time rooms (Martinetti) must be in by Friday, April 4 (the day before Spring Break).
All Arthur Hall and Martinetti residents will have a $5 fine tacked onto their student accounts following what flyers have dubbed a “Not so inexpensive prank”.
According to flyers, all light bulbs were removed from the Arthur Hall basement on Tuesday, Feb. 12. Because nobody has admitted to committing the offense, all students with building access must contribute toward reparation fees.
There’s a Buddhist saying that sez: TO STAND ON TIPTOE ALL DAY, IT JUST CANNOT BE DONE- probably sounds better in the original language.
But it kind of makes you wonder what would have inspired someone to put that set of words to paper, ya know?... Maybe it was someone in a prison cell, standing on his little bench, trying to see out of a little barred window—
