Greetings from the SGA Office

The semester is coming to a close. It feels as though this semester has flown by very quickly. A lot of exciting things have taken place on campus during the past few months.

Aside from our regular bingo and poker nights, we’ve had some fun weekend specials as well. One of these was Stacey Jones, a paranormal investigator. In late October, she came to our school to give a talk and PowerPoint presentation about her work.

Lost Respect for "Big Love" Critic

If I only knew where to begin. I was completely and utterly shocked when I picked up the newspaper and flipped to page 9. I’m not sure what I was expecting to read, but this certainly wasn’t it.

Response to "Bustin' Out with Big Love" The term “shock and awe” comes to mind.  Not because of the nature of Big Love, but of the mentality of the reviewer.  I was initially shocked because of the brash accusations of weak actors and an inadequate director followed by awe-inducing allegations that we destroyed a piece of theatre by not following the script word-for-word.  I feel like someone needs to set the record straight.  Although my performance as Constantine was praised as “full and larger than life,” I can’t sit back and let my peers be unjustly criticized.

Poverty: A Lot More Than It's Cracked Up To Be

A few weeks back, I attended a forum at the Morristown Elementary School on the issue of childhood poverty in Vermont − its myriad causes and possible cures. The forum was put on by the Vermont Childhood Poverty Council, directed by members of the Vermont Legislature.

As one who grew up in poverty - at the age of twelve I watched my family careen from the comforts of middle class into the dire straights of abject poverty - I know all too well the immense pain and humiliation a family can suffer when inflicted with this, the worst of all social diseases.

Basement Medicine: Freedom - What?

This Issue's Issue from the SGA: Respect

We are writing to address an issue we seem to be having with respect. For some reason, this year we are having a large problem with a lack of respect for one another. We are seeing lots of vandalism, vehicular break-ins, people defacing posters and property, and just a general lack of respect towards one another. We think this is a big problem, so we are asking for you, the students, to tell us what you think.

Politics Demystified: A Primer

By Chelsea Hicken

The vocabulary of politics is sometimes archaic, often categorical, and sadly, difficult to understand for many Americans.A primer, a manual that covers the basic elements of a subject, can be helpful if you are interested in learning, and a political primer is an asset if you want what you say to be…ahem… politically correct.

Bernie Sanders Pushes for S.O.S. Act: Stop Outsourcing Security

From the Office of Senator Bernie Sanders

WASHINGTON, November 7 – Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) today joined Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.) at a press conference in the Capitol to unveil legislation that would phase out the use of private security contractors in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The Stop Outsourcing Security (S.O.S.) Act would restore vital military functions to the military, reducing the reliance on unaccountable private security contractors in the war zones.
