Women's Cross Country
The Johnson State College Men’s and Women’s X-Country Running programs emphasize athletics as an extension of the classroom, such that goal setting, time-management, fitness training and sports nutrition compliment the student-athletes’ academic learning experiences. The programs’ focus is to develop a community of athletes and fans who are energized by running in particular and Badger athletics in general. Fit-for-life is a pervasive team mantra, and the driving goal for our program is to empower and inspire each runner to pursue personal fitness and lead active lives.
The x-country programs’ daily workout regimine includes interval training, LSD (Long, Slow Distance runs), up-tempo runs, hill work and agility stations. Our stength and flexibility training includes core strength circuits, rock climbing, power yoga and pool workouts. Our cross-training opportunies include Zumba, hiking, relay races and other fun games to get our heart rates up and enjoy ourselves as a team! Most competitions are held each Saturday, beginning the 1st weekend of September and running through the second weekend of November.
The x-country programs also aim to develop and promote positive community volunteer opportunities for our student-athletes. This spring, 2011, we hosted our first annual Friday Fun Run Series: four 5k-trail races open to the community at large. The Fun Run Series is an excellent opportunity for runners of all ages and abilities to get their race pace on before the summer is underway. We are also helping promote fitness for kids with a free community event: Kids on the Run:Race and Games Fest, on May 6th!
The men’s and women's x-country running teams at Johnson State College are immensely fortunate to have such beautiful and challenging terrain immediately surrounding our 330 acre campus. Lace up you running shoes to Go Run Happy!!!
