Women's Cross Country Coaching Staff
Camille Campanile
JOHNSON, Vt. (February 4, 2011) - Johnson State College athletics is proud to announce the hiring of Camille Campanile as their new Head Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Coach. Campanile will replace Jim Roy who led the program for the last 12 years before resigning this winter. Campanile, who is also an Adjunct Professor of Child Development, Community Outreach Coordinator, and Power Yoga Instructor at Johnson State, will assume the responsibilities of the position immediately.
Campanile was an academic and athletic standout while at Colby College from 2001-03 where she earned NCAA Division I Academic All-America honors in 2002 while competing for the cross country skiing program. Campanile earned numerous other academic honors while at Colby College where she earned her Bachelor’s of Art Degree in English and History and was named Major of the Year for each concentration. She was elected to Phi Beta Kappa for academic excellence also in 2004.
Campanile moved to on to earn Johnson State College’s Master of Art Education Student of the Year and earning her Master of Art Degree in Education in 2010.
An avid runner for most of her life, Campanile has competed in a number of run and ski races throughout the New England region in a variety of distances and race designs.
“I am passionate about running and wellness,” said Campanile. “I am very excited to share this with the student-athletes at Johnson State College and believe that athletics is an extension of the classroom and that sports enhance the collegiate learning experience. I am very excited now as a professor and coach to support student-athletes in reaching their full potential in the classroom and on the running trails.”
Campanile continued, “We have gorgeous and challenging running terrain at Johnson State College and I would love to see a community of runners, fans, and the campus community as a whole energized by running.”
Interim Director of Athletics Michael Osborne commented, “Camille brings to Johnson an unrivaled level of spirit for life in general and for challenging one’s self to embrace challenges, meet personal goals, and fulfill potential. Her understanding of the unique dynamics life as a collegiate student-athlete pose, her ability to relate with and stimulate the people she comes in contact with, and a great knowledge of running techniques and training strategies are just a few of the attributes we are excited that Camille will add to our cross country program and our campus community.”
Campanile, who is the wife of Johnson State Men’s and Women’s Soccer Head Coach Ray Campanile, and the Johnson State cross country teams will open their traditional season in 2011 with a race at New England College on Friday, September 2nd.
