Children's Swim Program

Lessons & Water Safety Instruction

The JSC aquatics program offers quality swim lessons to the children in our community, helping them learn swimming and water safety skills while having a great time.

General Summer Swim Program Information

Fees
Sessions are $40 per child. (The towns of Johnson and Cambridge will pay $15 of the lesson for one session.)

  • Class fees must be paid in full at the SHAPE Center
  • All registrations are on a first-come, first-served basis
  • No telephone reservations will be taken


Classes
Level I: Water Exploration (Beginner)
5 - 12 years, 1:6 ratio
Students will learn basic swimming and safety skills. The goal of this class is for the child to become comfortable and independent in the water.

Level II: Primary Skills (Beginner)
5 -12 years, 1:6 ratio
This level focuses on the student becoming more independent in the water. Children will learn floating, rhythmic breathing and the basic front crawl stroke.

Level III: Stroke Readiness (Advanced)
5 - 12 years, 1:8 ratio
Students will begin to coordinate the front crawl and back crawl. Diving will also be introduced at this level.

Level IV: Stroke Development (Advanced)
5-12 years, 1:8 ratio
Front and back crawl will be reviewed while students are introduced to the Breakstone, sidestroke and basics of turning at the wall.

Level V/VI: Skill Proficiency/Advanced Swimming Skills
8 - 15 years
11 - 11:45 a.m., Mondays - Thursdays
All swim strokes are refined at this level. Additional diving and rescue skills are introduced as well as competitive flip turns.

Shrimp Dip: Preschool Class
6 months and up
Infants will join their parents in the water. Parents will learn appropriate ways to hold the infant so they can float on their fronts and backs.

Refund and Cancellation Policy
The SHAPE Center staff reserves the right to cancel any programs where there is insufficient enrollment, inclement weather or unsafe pool conditions. In the event of a canceled program, participants will be refunded or receive credit. IF classes are canceled due to inclement weather or unsafe pool conditions, refunds will not be issued and make-up classes will be scheduled at another time.
