Johnson Earns First-Ever Win in Women's Volleyball

JOHNSON, Vt. - Johnson State avenged an early season loss to Southern Vermont by defeating the visiting Mountaineers 3-0 in the finale of a tri-match also featuring Lyndon State College. The win was the first-ever for the first-year program and came with game scores of 25-21, 25-14, and 25-20. Johnson finishes their season on a high note and at 1-17 overall, 0-7 in the North Atlantic Conference. Lyndon elevated their record to 11-13, 2-5 NAC by beating both JSC and SVC 3-0. Southern Vermont falls to 1-17, 0-5 North East Collegiate Conference.

Morgan Reilly’s 10 assists and seven digs and Kayla Brobst’s eight kills help lead Lyndon over Johnson 3-0 in the day’s first match. Ally Ciaramitaro led the Hornets with 12 digs while Maegan Fried and Michelle Petty recorded four kills apiece.
Kylie Van Etten (Montrose, Penn.) paced the Johnson squad with 14 digs and three assists, both team-high’s. Caitlin Mackey (St. Albans, Vt.) tallied three kills while Van Etten and Jessica Pafumi (Monson, Mass.) each a pair to account for the Johnson seven total for the match.

Lyndon won their second match of the day behind outstanding passing and a strong team service effort. Reilly’s 18 assists allowed four Hornet players put away at least four kills apiece in the match and five different players had a service ace in the win. Petty had a team-high eight digs and Borbst scorching serve earned her six service aces.
Sarah Golub had eight digs, Kayleigh Moretto recorded three kills, a service ace, and a pair of digs, and Tasha Smith had three service aces, three digs, and two kills to lead the way for the Mountaineers.

In the final match of the day Johnson earned their first-ever program win in the team’s last match of the season. JSC fell to Southern Vermont in the team’s first match of the season 3-1 in Bennington.
The Badgers took control with a gritty 25-21 win in the first game, cruised to a convincing 25-14 win the game two, and then saw a SVC service error in game three seal the victory.
Van Etten had a good all-around effort with six assists, four service aces, four digs, and three kills. Pafumi led the team with six kills in the match and added a pair of service aces and digs. Beth Lilligreen (North Kingstown, R.I.) amassed four kills and had three digs while Alex Benlock (West Haven, Conn.) picked up a team-high 10 digs in the match. Mackey was solid with six digs, three assists, service aces, and two kills.
