JSC Swept In Season Opener at Mitchell

New London, Conn. (March 29, 2008) -

 

Johnson State opened their season on Saturday in Connecticut at Mitchell College suffering a pair of losses, 8-0 and 11-2.  The games were the first chance for the Badgers to be outside this spring due to the inclement weather in northern Vermont.

 

Game 1:

 

Mitchell College scored three runs in the second inning and two in the third and fourth innings respectively to cruise to a 8-0 win in game that lasted only six innings.

 

Erin Glock (So., South Woodstock, Vt./Windsor), Christina Gilbert (Jr., Newport, Maine/Nokomis Regional), and Ashely Allegrini (Fr., Cos Cob, Conn./Greenwich) each rapped singles for Johnson State to account for the team's three hits.

 

Allie Cunningham (Jr., Manchester, N.H./Central) pitched five and 1/3 innings striking out eight, walking six, and allowing seven hits and eight earned runs to get tagged with the loss.

 

Game 2:

 

In the second game the Badgers took an early 1-0 lead but saw the Pequots rattled off six second inning runs on their way to a 11-2 win.

 

Miranda Robtoy (So., Barre, Vt./Spaulding) went 2-for-2 on the day including a double while Gilbert collected two more hits, also including a double, and had an RBI to pace the JSC offense.  Julie Gervais (So., Enosburg Falls, Vt./Enosburg) went 1-for-3 and scored both Badger runs.

 

Gervais pitched four innings allowing seven hits, nine earned runs, and three walks while striking out six batters to get the pitching loss.

 

Johnson State will travel to Maine for a pair of doubleheaders next weekend against Husson and Maine Maritime.
