Johnson, Vt. (February 16, 2008) -
Johnson State overcame a slow start, one in which they scored five points in the first 20 minutes and shot 1-of-33 (3%) from the floor, to earn a come-from-behind win over Elms College 53-47 on Saturday in North Atlantic Conference women’s basketball.
The Badgers (10-13, 6-7 NAC) limped through the first stanza getting a single basket from Sara Dolan (Barre, Vt./Spaulding) but fortunately trailed by only 11 points, 16-5, at the half.
Johnson State would look like a different team after the half scoring 48 points and hitting on 5-of-8 3-pointers and earned a big North Atlantic Conference triumph and all but sealing a NAC West Division #3 seed for the playoffs.
Casey Rusin (Wilmington, Vt./Wilmington) hit four 3-pointers en route to a game-high 16 points while Dolan scored 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Senior Jenna Lewis (Middlebury, Vt./Middlebury), honored on this JSC Senior Day, joined them in double-figures scoring 11 points, nabbing seven rebounds, and handing out a game-high five assists.
Elms (7-15, 4-8 NAC) had Amanda Brogna (Oxford, Mass.) record a double-double with 14 points and 17 rebounds to lead the Blazer charge.
Johnson State will host Bay Path College on Monday at 5:30 pm and wrap up their season on the road at Castleton on Friday. Elms will host Bay Path the day after JSC on Tuesday in their next contest.
