Johnson, Vt. (April 10, 2008)

JSC men's basketball standout Charlie Viana (Sr., Valley Stream, N.Y./Valley Stream South) has been selected to play in the New England Basketball Coaches Association (NEBCA) New England Division III Senior All-Star Game at Babson College on Sunday, April 13th at 3:00 pm.

Boloco has agreed to take on a prominent role this year as a sponsor for the event, which will showcase some of the finest players in the region. There are many stars participating who have garnered All-America status as well as All-Region, All-Conference, and Conference Player of the Year honors. The rosters were selected by several committees made up of area college coaches.

The teams will play at Staake Gymnasium on the campus of Babson College.  In addition to the all-star game, there will be a raffle with top prizes including Boston Celtics playoff tickets and Red Sox tickets. Admission to the game is free!

Viana, a 6'1" wing, had a tremendous senior season and for his efforts was voted to the NAC First Team.  Viana averaged 20.4 ppg for the year, a career-best, and a league-leading 22.4 ppg in league play.  The Health Science major also ranked in the NAC top 10 in rebounding at 6 rpg.

Viana tallied career-high's as well in field goal percentage (.465), three-point field goal percentage (.409), free throw percentage (.814), and steals (32).

The left-handed power guard finishes his career as the school's third all-time leading scorer with 1,674 points, the all-time leader in three-point field goals with 181, seventh all-time in career assists with 211, fourth all-time in career rebounds with 544, second all-time in career field goals with 607, fifth all-time in free throw percentage at .777, eighth all-time in steals with 86, and ninth all-time in blocks with 19 to make him one of the most productive players to ever don a JSC uniform.

Viana led the Badgers to a 9-17 overall record and to a NAC Quarterfinal playoff game, which they dropped 85-82 at East Division #1 seed Husson College, the program's first playoff game since 2004-05.  The nine wins was the highest total for the programs since 2002-03.
