Wheelock Beats Johnson State 12-2 and 5-4

JOHNSON, Vt. (April 20, 2008)

 

Johnson State College was swept in a softball doubleheader on Sunday by Wheelock College by the scores of 12-2 and 5-4.  The Badgers fall to 0-22 on the season and 0-14 in the North Atlantic Conference while Wheelock moves to 7-17 overall and 3-13 in the NAC.

 

GAME 1:

Allie Cunningham (Jr., Manchester, N.H./Central) hit a two-run homer for Johnson State to supply their only runs of the game in a 12-2 loss in mercy-rule-shortened 5-inning game.   Julie Gervais (So., Enosburg Falls, Vt./Enosburg) took the loss for the Badgers going four innings allowing 11 hits and nine earned runs while walking five and striking out two.

Stacy Seidner drove in four runs for Wheelock and pitched five innings allowing only two hits for the win.

 

GAME 2:

Cunningham smacked another home run, her fourth of the season, as the Badgers rallied back from four runs down to put the tying run on third in the bottom of the seventh only to see the game end as a 5-4 defeat.  Christina Gilbert (Jr., Newport, Maine/Nokomis Regional) scored two runs for the Badgers.  Gervais was tagged with the pitching loss allowing seven hits over the seven innings and striking out three batters.

 

Elise Ordile singled twice, scored a run, and drove in two for Wheelock.  Nicole Zina pitched a complete game scattering 10 hits and striking out four for the win.

 

Johnson State will travel to Lyndon State on Tuesday in their next game at 3:30 pm while Wheelock will go to U. Maine-Farmington on Saturday for their next contest.
