JSC Completes Season With Sweep of Vermont Tech

JOHNSON, Vt. (May 3, 2009) -

 

GAME 1:

Johnson State scored five runs in the first two innings and then used a strong pitching and defensive effort to earn a win in game of the a doubleheader with Vermont Technical College on Sunday in Johnson by the score of 5-1.

 

Senior Allie Cunningham (Manchester, N.H./Central) threw seven innings allowing only four hits and one earned run while striking out two.  The JSC defense played an error free seven innings to back Cunningham.

 

Julie Gervais (Enosburg Falls, Vt./Enosburg) went 3-for-3 with two doubles and two runs scored to spark the Badger (10-17, 4-10 NAC) offense while Cunningham added an RBI double and scored twice.

 

Jessica Arkley doubled and scored the lone Vermont Tech run in the first inning. 

 

GAME 2:

In game two the Badgers pounded out 17 hits en route to a season-high 22 runs as JSC (11-17, 4-10 NAC) completed the sweep and their season schedule defeating VTC 22-2 in five innings.

 

Julie Gervais went 3-for-3, to make it 6-for-6 on the day, while driving in four runs, scoring three times, and adding two more doubles.  Brittany Lumsden (Hardwick, Vt./Hazen) drove in five runs while going 3-for-5 including a three-run home run, the first of her collegiate career.  Senior Heidi Bellemore (Lowell, Mass./Lowell) scored three times and Emily Sullivan (Hollis, Maine/Bonny Eagle) scored four times to lead the JSC offensive surge.

 

Three JSC pitchers teamed up to allow only five Vermont Tech hits while striking out three.

VTC’s Laura Conrad went 2-for-3 in the game while losing pitcher Amanda Angell had an RBI while going 1-for-3.
