UMF Sweep Johnson 4-3 & 8-1

Visiting Maine-Farmington took advantage of five Johnson State errors to notch a 4-3 North Atlantic Conference softball victory on Saturday at Minaert Field.
Johnson (7-9, 2-3 NAC) scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth inning when CarolAnn Jackson (Enosburg Falls, Vt./Enosburg) doubled home Morgan Rogerson (Hardwick, Vt./Hazen Union) and Brittany Lumsden (Hardwick, Vt./Hazen Union) to take the 3-2 lead.
UMF (4-6, 3-2 NAC) would respond in the top of the fifth with two runs to a take the lead right back keyed by a Kasey McPhail (Benton, Maine) RBI single. Liz Bergeron (Milford, Maine) would relieve starter Jessica Timmreck (Brunswick, Maine) and strike out five in the final two innings to earn the save.
Johnson starter Allie Cunningham (Manchester, N.H./Central) pitched well in the loss striking out five, scattering six hits, and walking three in seven innings. Ashley Allegrini (Cos Cob, Conn./Greenwich) belted a home run in the third inning while Julie Gervais (Enosburg Falls, Vt./Enosburg) and Rogerson each had two hits apiece including a double for Gervais.
Shortstop Samantha Morency (Lewiston, Maine) went 2-for-3 with a double, RBI and run scored for Farmington.

Catcher McKell Barnes (Durham, Maine) put the game out of reach in the top of the seventh inning when she belted a two-run home run over the left centerfield fence to make the score 6-1 Farmington. UMF (5-6, 4-2 NAC) would tack on two more runs for good measure and cruise to a 8-1 win in the nightcap.
Liz Bergeron (Milford, Maine) allowed four hits over the first two innings but shut down the Johnson State (7-10, 2-4) bats there after not allowing a hit over the final five innings while striking out eight and walking three for the complete-game victory.
Barnes would finish 4-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBI to pace the Beaver offense while Casandra Dyer (Freeport, Maine) when 2-for-4 with a triple, two RBI, two runs scored, and two stolen bases.
JSC starter Julie Gervais (Enosburg Falls, Vt./Enosburg) was touched for 13 hits over seven innings in the loss. She also had a first inning single and came around to score the Badgers lone run when catcher Brittany Lumsden (Hardwick, Vt./Hazen Union) tripled to right centerfield.
Johnson will host Thomas College on Sunday at 12:00 pm in their final home doubleheader of the season while Farmington will travel to Lyndon State tomorrow also at 12:00 pm.
