Thomas Tops Johnson in DH

GAME 1:

Visiting Thomas College exploded for nine top of the fourth inning to pull away from Johnson State and win game one of the day’s doubleheader 12-2 in five innings in North Atlantic Conference softball play on Sunday at Minaert Field.

 

JSC (7-11, 2-5) struck first in the bottom of the second inning when senior Heidi Bellemore (Lowell, Mass./Lowell) singled home freshman Morgan Rogerson (Hardwick, Vt./Hazen).  The Badgers would add one more in the inning following a Thomas infield error to make it 2-0.

 

Thomas (6-14-1, 4-3 NAC) got on the board in the top of the third keyed by consecutive doubles by Sarah Estes (Brewer, Maine), pitcher Patrice Cianchette (Corinna, Maine), and Brittany Morin (Winslow, Maine) to even the score at 2-2.

 

The Terriers would take advantage of eight Johnson State walks in the top of the fourth and plate nine runs en route to five inning win.  Cianchette allowed only three hits while striking out four to get the win for Thomas.  Kaymala Eels (Otisfield, Maine) and Kristy Clements (Monroe, Maine) each drove in a pair of runs for Thomas while Morin went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI.

 

Johnson’s Allie Cunningham (Manchester, N.H./Central) took the loss going three 2/3 innings, allowing six hits, striking out two, and walking seven.

 

GAME 2:

The Thomas College (7-14-1, 5-3 NAC) offense stayed hot for game two tallying 12 hits and 16 runs to earn a 16-0 five inning victory in the day’s nightcap.

 

Morin went 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBI and a triple, Clements went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI, and Heather Dupuis (South Berwick, Maine) drove in three runs and scored twice to pace the Thomas offense.  Jordan Kennedy tossed all five innings for Thomas allowing only four hits while striking out 10 Badgers en route to the win.

 

Johnson received singles from Emily Sullivan (Hollis, Maine/Bonny Eagle), CarolAnn Jackson (Enosburg Falls, Vt./Enosburg), and Bellemore and a double for Julie Gervais (Enosburg Falls, Vt./Enosburg) to account for all of the JSC (7-12, 2-6 NAC) hits.  Gervais took the loss for Johnson allowing nine hits over two and 1/3 innings.

 

JSC will host SUNY-Cobleskill at 3 pm in their final home doubleheader of the season on Tuesday.
