Badgers Defeat Southern Maine CC 12-4

Senior Allie Cunningham pitched five innings for the win and went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead Johnson to their first victory of the season on Friday

Johnson State softball earned their first win on the season on Friday by defeating host Southern Maine Community College 12-4 in five innings.  The game was to be the first of a doubleheader but the weather caused the second game to be cancelled.

 

Junior pitcher Allie Cunningham (Manchester, N.H./Central) went five innings allowing no earned runs, striking out three, and walking a pair to get the win for Johnson State (1-2, 0-0 NAC). Cunningham also went 2-for-2 at the plate for JSC including a double and triple while scoring three times and driving in a run.

 

Junior Julie Gervais (Enosburg Falls, Vt./Enosburg) went 4-for-4 to spark the offense for Johnson.  Gervais doubled, stole two bases, and scored three times while senior Heidi Bellemore (Lowell, Mass./Lowell) also went 4-for-4 with a double and three runs batted in.

 

Senior Ashley Allegrini (Cos Cob, Conn./Greenwich) scored three times, drove in a run while going 2-for-2 with a double and triple. 

 

The win was the first college coaching victory for new Head Coach Robert Gervais.

 

Johnson State is scheduled to play a doubleheader in South Portland again on Saturday against Central Maine Community College starting at noon.
