JSC Drops Pair at MMA

Castine, Maine (April 6, 2008)

 

Johnson State fell to Maine Maritime in both ends of a doubleheader on Sunday by the scores of 8-0 and 8-3.

 

GAME 1:  MMA 8, JSC 0

 

Amanda Barker tossed five innings of no-hit softball for Maine Maritime to help the home Mariners to an 8-0 North Atlantic Conference win.

 

Julie Gervais (So., Enosburg Falls, Vt./Enosburg) tossed four and third innings for Johnson State getting the loss.  Gervais allowed 10 hits, six earned runs, and four walks while striking out four MMA batters.

 

GAME 2:  MMA 8, JSC 3

 

Johnson State took a 3-1 lead into the bottom of the fifth inning but Maine Maritime scored a pair in the fifth and five more in the bottom of the sixth to complete a 2-game sweep on the day.

 

Allie Cunningham (Jr., Manchester, N.H./Central) went 3-for-3 on the day including a double and stolen base and scored twice to lead the Badgers offensive charge.  Stephanie Girard (Fr., Wallingford, Conn./Mark T. Sheehan) scored the other JSC run.

 

Gervais pitched five and third innings for JSC allowing only three earned runs, two walks, and nine hits while striking out three.  Cunningham also pitched two-thirds of an inning striking out both batters she faced.

 

JSC falls to 0-8 on the year and 0-6 in the NAC.  JSC will travel to the College of St. Joseph (Vt.) on Tuesday in their next contest.
