JSC Drops Twin Bill at Lyndon
LYNDON CENTER, Vt. (April 22, 2009)
Lyndon State rallied from a four-run deficit Wednesday to record an 8-6 victory over arch-rival Johnson State in Game 1 of a non-conference doubleheader held at LSC's Skip Pound Field. In Game 2, the Lady Hornets jumped out to a 5-0 lead after three innings of play and breezed to a 10-1 win over the Lady Badgers in five innings.
In the opener, Tricia Lussier's run-scoring single proved to be the game-winner as Lyndon rallied to victory. Lussier, Jessica Shuffelt, Jenna Kennett, Sarah Tucker and Katelyn Willey had two hits each for LSC, who upped its record to 7-13 overall. Sara Fetterhoff went the distance to get the win, allowing six earned runs on six hits while striking out three and walking two.
Julie Gervais, Brittany Lumsden, Allie Cunningham, Morgan Rogerson and Heidi Bellmore had two hits each for Johnson, who dropped to 7-14 on the season overall. Gervais tossed a complete game for JSC, allowing seven earned runs on 13 hits while fanning one and walking two.
In the nightcap, grabbed a 5-0 lead by the third and put the game away an inning later with a five-run barrage en route to the abbreviated win. Shuffelt had two hits to lead Lyndon State and Mary Gagne collected three runs-batted-in in the contest. Theresa Danforth got the win, allowing only one earned run on three hits while striking out one and walking three. Cunningham, who was relieved by Gervais in the fourth, took the loss. She allowed six earned runs on six hits while fanning one and walking six.
