NAC Quarterfinal:  Maine Maritime 4, Johnson 2

Castine, Maine - Maine Maritime got a goal from Jess Stahl in the third minute of the opening stanza and went on to beat Johnson State College 4-2 in a North Atlantic Conference quarterfinal match Tuesday afternoon. The loss ended the Badgers season with a 6-8-1 overall record.  With the win MMA improves to 10-6-1 on the season and advances to play at Husson University in a semifinal match on Saturday afternoon at 1pm.

 

Maine Maritime struck first in 4th minute when junior defender Jessica Stahl (Bowdoin, ME) scored directly off of a corner kick to give MMA the 1-0 lead. The Stahl goal was her first tally of the season.

 

The Lady Mariners struck again in the 14th minute when Callie Thompson (Windsor, ME) collected an Alexis Bennett (Freedom, ME) pass and chipped it over the Badger keeper from 20-yards out to give MMA the 2-0 advantage.

 

The Lady Mariners scored again in the 68th minute when Callie Thompson slid a pass through the box to the feet of Diana Manatt-Rogers (Conway, MA) who one timed the ball into the back of the Badger net. The goal gave MMA the 3-0 lead. MMA tallied their fourth goal of the day in the 80th minute when Emily Brogden (Union, ME) scored off of a cross from senior captain Kim Watts (Tennants Harbor, ME).

 

The Badgers got on the board 81st minute when Amy Barrows (Vergennes, VT) placed a penalty kick in the top left corner of the net to close the gap to 4-1. The goal came after a collision occurred inside the box and a penalty was called giving the badgers the PK. The Badgers scored the final goal of the match in the 89th minute when Jacqueline Poutre (Underhill, VT) scored an unassisted goal.

 

Morgan Solomon (Cavendish, VT) took the loss making 6 saves on 15 MMA shots in net for the Badgers. Lacey Jackson (York, PA) recorded the win for MMA making 2 saves on 6 shots.
