Mariners Late Goal Sinks JSC
Castine, Maine - The Maine Maritime Academy Men’s Soccer team got a goal in the 88th minute from striker Nate Tipton (West Chester, PA) to squeak past the Johnson State College Badgers on Saturday in North Atlantic Conference action. The loss drops the Badgers drop to 6-6-1 and 2-3 in conference play and with the win MMA improves to 7-5-1 and 3-2 in the NAC.
The Mariners controlled play for most of the match out shooting Johnson State 23-4. MMA hit the crossbar twice late in the match but finally converted in the final minutes when Nate Tipton took a pass from Isaiah Roberts (Machias, ME) and blasted it past the keeper into the right corner of the net. The winning goal by Tipton was his 10th tally of the year.
Steve Noyes (Barre, Vt./Spaulding) took the loss for the Badgers making 3 saves on the afternoon. MMA keeper Jeff Butland got the win and the shutout for MMA without having to make a save in the match.
