JSC Drops Another One-Goal Game at Husson
Bangor, Maine - Husson Universtiy Men’s Soccer defeated Johnson State 2-1 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play. With the win, Husson remains ranked first in the NAC with a record of 7-8-2 and Johnson State falls to 6-6-1.
Husson scored early in the first half with a Mark Trombley (Sr., Burnham, ME) goal. Trombley’s goal resulted from a Justin Gauvin (Sr., Woolwich, ME) assist. Gauven settled the ball off an indirect kick and passed to Trombley who buried the ball into the back of the net.
Trombley also tallied Husson’s second goal of the game although the score technically resulted from a Johnson State own-goal.  After Trombley hit a cross toward the Badger goal, a Johnson State defender attempted to head the ball away and it careened off his head and into the Johnson state goal for what would become the game winner.Â
In the second half, Eagle goalkeeper Mason Smith (Fy., Houma, LA) and Badger goalkeeper Steve Noyes (Sr., Barre, Vt./Spaulding) made key saves to keep their respective teams in the game. Noyes made a sprawling save on an Alex Martin (So., Van Buren, ME) shot midway into the second half. Husson’s Smith made a diving save off of a low Badger shot by Noor Bulle (Somalia/Burlington) and then smothered Bulle’s rebound shot.
Johnson State scored with under three minutes left in the second half off of a quick counter attack. With three Badgers rushing one Eagle defender, Noor Bulle dribbled the ball up the field and collected Johnson State’s only goal.
The Eagles outshot the Badgers 27-10. Johnson state goalkeeper Noyes recorded 14 saves while Husson’s Smith recorded 4 saves on the game.Â
Johnson State next plays at Castleton on October 23 at 7:00 PM. The Eagles return to action with their final home conference game of the regular season on Saturday, October 24 against University of Maine at Farmington. Game time is set for 3:00 PM.Â
