Johnson Topples Lyndon 17-5

JOHNSON, Vt. (April 1, 2009) – Johnson State trailed early 2-0 and 4-2 but then outscored visiting Lyndon State 15-1 to earn a 17-5 North Atlantic Conference lacrosse victory on Wednesday afternoon at Minaert Field.

 

Lyndon State (1-3, 0-3 NAC) struck early with goals by Myles Hacking (St. Johnsbury, Vt.) and Craig Salvagno (Trumbull, Conn.) in the first three minutes.  The Badgers would tie the score at two with goals by Billy Noyes (Boston, Mass./Northeast Regional) and Erik Tillberg (Randolph, Vt.), Tillberg’s goal coming with 11:52 remaining in the second period.

 

LSC struck back with two more, both by Chris Mansour (Mansfield, Mass.), to gain the 4-2 advantage.  Noyes would net two goals to tie it up for Johnson (2-1, 2-1 NAC), the second assisted by Matt Riani (Jericho, Vt./Mount Mansfield).  A Casey Riley (Kennebunk, Maine/Kennebunk) score and another Tillberg goal would give JSC a slim 6-4 lead heading into halftime.

 

Johnson not only kept momentum but stepped on the gas outscoring the Hornets 11-1 over the last 30 minutes getting goals from six different players including three from Riani, two by Tillberg, and two by Matt Martin (Vergennes, Vt./Middlebury)Justin Connolly (Jeffersonville, Vt./Lamoille), Steve Noyes (Barre, Vt./Spaulding) each scored single goals for JSC. 

 

Billy Noyes finished with four goals and six assists, Tillberg tallied four goals and two assists, and Riani scored four goals and dished our four assists to lead the Badger offense on the day.

 

Hacking, along with Monsour, would finish with two goals on the day for Lyndon who scored on four of their first five shots but only one of their final 12.

 

Branden Sawyer (East Greenwich, R.I./East Greenwich) stopped seven shots for the win while Jeff Boesse (Moretown, Vt./Harwood Union) made a single stop to help with the Badger goalkeeping.

 

Matt Adams (Duxbury, Mass.) was tremendous throughout the game for Lyndon making 25 saves on the day.

 

Johnson State will travel to Waterville, Maine on Saturday for another NAC tilt versus Thomas College at the Colby College campus at 3:30 pm.  Lyndon State will host Mount Ida College on Saturday with the start at 1:00 pm.
