Mustangs Race By Badgers 18-3

JOHNSON, Vt. (April 19, 2008)

 

Johnson State College was defeated by Mount Ida College on Saturday in a North Atlantic Conference men’s lacrosse tilt 18-3 at Minaert Field in the Badgers home-opener.

 

JSC (4-4, 3-4 NAC) netted the game’s first goal when Mike Murphy (So., Woodstock, Vt./Woodstock) scored an unassisted goal at the 11:15 mark of the first period.  The Mustangs (10-5, 6-0 NAC) would rattle off the games next eight goals taking an 8-1 lead into the halftime break.

 

Erik Tillberg (So., Randolph, Vt./Randolph) opened the scoring for the Badgers at 1:16 into the third period but Mount Ida would respond with four consecutive goals to make it a comfortable 10-goal cushion.

 

Kegan Pettit (Sr., South Freeport, Maine/Freeport) would feed Billy Noyes (So., Boston, Mass./Northeast Metro Tech) for JSC’s third goal of the day with 7:19 remaining in the third period to complete the Badgers scoring.

 

Leo Shidler (Jr., Peabody, Mass./Peabody) recorded five goals and an assist to pace Mount Ida while John Lightbrown (Sr., Melrose, Mass./Malden Catholic) scored four goals and assisted on a pair.  Matt Savage (Fr., Peabody, Mass./Peabody) scored two goals and assisted on two others and Anthony DiMarsico (Jr., Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) tallied a goal and assist to supplement the Mustang scoring.

 

Evan Pestone (Sr., Cohasset, Mass./Cohasset) was tremendous throughout the game for Johnson State making save-after-save en route to 20 stop effort.  His counterpart Matt Vernik (So., Bethany, Conn./Amity Catholic) made needed to make only one save to earn the win.

 

Johnson State will host Mitchell College on Wednesday in their next contest at 3:30 pm while Mount Ida will wrap up their regular season schedule at U. Mass-Dartmouth at 4:00 pm.
