Men's Golf Finishes 6th at NAC Championships
Orono, Maine-Husson University won the North Atlantic Conference Men's Golf Championship, besting the field by 40 strokes with a two-day total of 604 at the Penobscot Valley Country Club.
Kevin Byrne of Husson fired a two-day 142 to earn medalist honors for the tournament. Four Husson golfers finished among the top five. Husson's Mike Hersey's 148 (71,77) placed second overall with the 2008 NAC Player of the Year Castleton's Michael Krahn (74, 81) finishing third. Husson's Matt Loubier placed fourth with a two day score of 157 (76,81) and Farmington's Reid Bond (80,78) and Husson's John Elis (79, 79) tied for fifth.
Castleton finished second in the team scoring (644), eight strokes better than third place Maine-Farmington. Thomas (704) was fourth followed by Maine Maritime (710), Johnson State (729) and Green Mountain (866).
Johnson State was paced by sophomore Tyler Parker (Morrisville, Vt./Peoples Academy) and his 77-85-162 which put in him in a three-way tie for 8th place overall in the 35 player field. Ross Pawlak (Windham, Vt./Green Mountain) fired a 87-93-180 to finish in tie for 22nd, Billy Noyes (Boston, Mass./Northeast Metro Tech) shot a 90-106-196 and came in 26th place, Paul Elmendorf's (Waterbury, Conn./Sacred Heart) 94-105-199 was good enough for 27th place, and Branden Sawyer (East Greenwich, R.I./East Greenwich) shot a 107-98-205 to finish in 30th place.
